The Call: Oak Park's First Fan Section Rally

On Friday August 30th Oak Park Student Council and our Oak Park Cheer Squad hosted the first ever "Lumberyard Call."  We called all spiriting Oakies to rally after our first football game of the season to go through a spirit boot camp, and of course, eat a little food.


The night began with Jackson Satter, our Student Body Public Relations Chair and Lumberyard Fan Section co-leader, talking with the student body about a few of the traditions that we hold in the Lumber yard.

 Next, our cheer squad prepped the students for all of the cheers that make our spirit squads famous! The students got loud for some of our favorite cheers that we love and a few new ones that the cheer squad has in store for 2019.

The night ended with our student body officers teaching the student body a few new interesting cheers that are student led including popcorn, the roller coaster, and House of Pain's Jump Around.  If you haven't seen these cheers, check them out on YouTube.

In the end, we had a great night.  It was a blast to watch our seniors take charge and lead the student body in new event. The investment that the officers are making is going to have huge dividends pay out soon!  I cannot wait to see or practice come to life in a game!

Assembly Reflection

Journal Work

Take a few minutes to write down a personal goal for yourself this year.  This is not a STUCO goal or an Oak Park Goal but a personal goal.  Once you have written down your goal...

1. Write down some action steps to take to achieve that goal
2. Email your goal and action steps to the person on the slip and CC yourself
3. We will follow up and check in on our partners in December

Setting Up our Committees

This year, we are going to try to spend some time setting up an app called Trello.  Trello's goal will be to help us stay connected and stay organized.  Once we have activated Trello, I want your committee to think about what events you would like to run for Homecoming.  Ultimately, our officers will decide what committees will be working on certain tasks.

Leadership Lock In

2019-2020 is underway!  The officers are off to a great start leading Student Council toward one of our best years yet.  Using ideas the officers learned in Fulton, they planned a night packed full of fun, excitement.

The night began with an old tradition spanned decades.  During our "Paint the Boots" event, we painted Norman's bootprints up the East Drive to make them look bright and sharp for all of the students coming back to school the next week!

The night continued with some team building activities that helped to bring us all closer together.  One of our focus goals this year is building a strong sense of community, we are on our way! Then, we had the chance to blow off some steam with Bubble Soccer!  Mr. Pabon and Mr. Edinger got some hits in, but I think that they also got a lot of bruises along with those hits.

We also were able to get a lot of planning done for our Freshmen Jumpstart Day.  The officers and the other leadership members came up with some great spirit posters, events, and chalked up sidewalks to welcome the class of 2023 in style.

Monday: December 17th 2018

Hello everyone,
   Sorry I could not be here today, this was an unexpected absence for me.  Today, I am going to have you guys review a few more key concepts for your final.  Please complete the following items...

1.  Watch and complete the video titled "Federalism" on Edpuzzle.
2.  Watch and complete the video titled "Articles of Confederation on Edpuzzle.
3.  Review Chapters 2 and 3 vocabulary on Quizlet using the Test feature
4.  Read through your notebooks looking for key concepts that you might be unfamiliar with.  Study those and make sure to fill the gaps!

Your test will be on Thursday!  About 35-40 MC Questions and an FRQ.  Make sure to study using your notebooks, edpuzzle, quizlet, and any of the study guides that were sent home on remind.

October 27th

Hey everyone, sorry I could not be here today.  There is one very important thing that needs to be accomplished today, and then I have an assignment for you.

1.  We need all hands on deck to make sure the water bottles get delivered for our blood donors.  Katia's group will lead you through this process.  This should only take 30 minutes for us to deliver all of the bottles to our donors.  We ended up have way more people register than anticipated; if we do not have enough water bottles make sure the water goes to students, staff if there is enough left.

2.  Once, you are finished after 30 minutes, open the tab at the top of this page titled "Oct. 27th Assignment."   COMMITTEE HEADS: PRINT OFF 6 COPIES; ONE FOR YOU AND ONE FOR EACH OF YOUR COMMITTEE MEMBERS!!!

3.  Complete the assignment and turn it in to the sub!

Finding Your Passion, Your True North

In school and in work there is an epidemic.  It is far-reaching and is threatening to undermine the progress that many of you have been striving for; it causes people to burn-out and turn away from jobs and projects they used to love.  We have all experienced its symptoms, blame, apathy, procrastination, frustration, and the most devastating, negativity.  When a person has no passion for what they do, it can pull a piece of the foundation from the foundation of a fragile house of cards.

We work around it, we take on more responsibility, we complain, or we shut down.  There are many avenues that can accommodate or avoid dealing with an issue that is stopping us from achieving outstanding results.  But, there is a more proactive manner in which we can synergize and energize our committees.

Oak Park Beautification Day

Friday, August 1st, is Oak Park Beautification Day.  We have a lot of events planned this year that will help to make Oak Park look GREAT as students and staff come back to school over the next few weeks.  We will meet at Oak Park at 9 am (We will have donuts) and we should be finished by early afternoon.

OP Beautification Day 2012

To make this day a success, we have to have a HUGE TURNOUT FROM YOU!!!  You will be working along side your committee members on the following tasks:

1. Painting the Boots:  Norman's boots always get a fresh coat of paint in the summer so that his    prints are nice and bright for students as they come back to school.  
2. Teacher/Student Parking Spot Logos:  This group will be painting an OP logo on parking lot spaces to identify staff and student parking spaces.  This will designate staff only parking, while at the same time, reserve spaces for students on all sides of the building to ensure western access to the building for our fine art students.  
3. Tree Patrol:  As some of you may have noticed, we have some not so alive trees on our campus.  These trees need to be removed and recorded (so that we can later replace the trees).
4. Flower Beds:  We need to clean up the flower beds around the campus.  These include the flower beds near the main doors, west doors, northeast sign, and the baseball fields.  

With all that we have going on, Oak Park will look great this Fall.  See you next Friday!

Summer Update

On Friday, June 27th Mr. Pabon and I met with the student body officers.  Kelly, Tiffany, Lauren, Becca, and Olivia have done an incredible job this summer of setting up an awesome school year.  They are excited and I know that they will do an awesome job leading our committees this Fall.  We had a lot of topics to cover and a lot of favors to ask of you, our leadership body.  So, we thought it would be easier to but it on our blog rather than text you bits of information.  Here is what we covered at our meeting.

1.  The summer retreat IS GOING TO HAPPEN.  However, it will most likely be one of the weekends in September (not the 19th and 20th... that is Homecoming).  We are working on reserving a cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks.  As soon as we know more details, we will post them on the blog.

2.  Our first Leadership event for the Summer will be Friday August 1st!  We will meet at 9am at Oak Park to complete some beautification projects around the school including mulching flower beds, weeding, and our perennial "Paint the Boots" project.  You will be working with your new committees, so this will be a great opportunity for you to meet and get to know the students you will be working with.  Make sure to mark your calendars and ask off work so that you can be there.  We will be finished by that afternoon.

3.  Freshman Kick Off is scheduled for Monday August 11th in the morning (Principal Maus still does not know the exact hour).  Mr. Maus has asked for all of you, the leadership class and STUCO, to assist with giving tours and serving on panels.  This is a high importance event as this is the first time we get to meet our incoming Freshmen; we want to put on a good show and let them know how excited we are that they are here!

4.  Homecoming Parade!  This year marks the 50th graduating class of Oak Park High School.  This year we will be conducting a parade before the game on Saturday afternoon.  This will be a huge endeavor, it has not been done since the 1990's, but I am sure this class will do an awesome job.  There is not a whole lot we need from you all now on this front, but what you can do about it is spread the word and get excited.  More details will follow on this front.
